50 Frampton Cotterell residents were welcomed to Parliament on Monday the 14th May. The trip is the fourth trip arranged for Frampton Cotterell residents in recent months, meaning that almost 200 Frampton residents have had the opportunity to visit the heart of British Democracy. The trips have been organised by local MP Luke Hall, as part of the work to fulfil his promise to provide aconstituents from across South Gloucestershire with the opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament.
Luke worked alongside local residents to organise a coach to leave from Frampton Cotterell and take residents straight to Parliament. The guests were given a fully guided tour around Parliament by a Professional Tour Guide, and visited both the House of Lords, and the House of Commons. They were also given the opportunity to view the splendour and beauty in less publicly known places within the Westminster Palace, such as the Queen’s Robing Room, The Royal Portrait Gallery, Central Lobby, Westminster Hall and St Stephens Hall. After the Tour, the residents were able to visit the Gift Shop, and have a cup of tea or coffee in the Jubilee Café next to Westminster Hall
Residents then met with Luke in one of Parliament’s committee rooms, where the finer details of legislation are normally discussed. Luke gave a talk as the local MP, describing his journey from working in Retail to becoming the Member of Parliament for his home town, where he used to manage Lidl. The Frampton Cotterell residents then had an open discussion with Luke about issues such as University funding, the use of plastics in supermarkets, and speeding within and around Frampton Cotterell.
Luke Hall said: “I was delighted to welcome my fourth coach of Frampton Cotterell residents to Parliament. I really would like to encourage anyone who is interested in these Tours of Parliament to nominate their local area, by getting in touch with my office.”
