Improvements to zebra crossing on Station Road implemented after MP intervention
Local Yate resident Luke Hall has stated he looks forward to further progress being made, regarding improvements to the zebra crossing situated on Station Road.
The crossing was a concern for many in the community, and was widely considered to be a hazard for both motorists and pedestrians. As the Member of Parliament for the area, Luke Hall was quick to bring this matter to the attention of South Gloucestershire, who have now announced a series of new measures due to be taken.
Following Mr. Hall’s intervention, improvements have now been made to the crossing’s lighting. The orange flashing beacons have been changed, whilst South Gloucestershire Council’s street lighting team have also reviewed the floodlighting on the crossing itself, and have opted to trial a new floodlight which they believe will improve the light on the crossing itself. The installation date for these is yet to be confirmed.
The Conservative Parliamentary candidate said, “The crossing on Station Road was in need of urgent attention and I am glad the Council have moved so swiftly to address local residents’ concerns.”
Throughout his Get Yate Moving campaign, Luke has discussing Yate’s infrastructure and has been investigating people’s concerns about road safety throughout the town.
“I would like to thank every single resident who has been in touch about the crossing on Station Road, and all those who have taken the time to complete my transport survey,” Luke said.
He continued, “Living in Yate I completely appreciate the importance of this matter and had my own reservations about the crossing on Station Road. I look forward to the Council considering further measures and improvements at this site, but the lighting changes are a fantastic start and I’m sure will make a big difference.”
The Council is welcoming any feedback local residents may have about the changes and the work taken by the Council so far.
