This week, Luke Hall MP hosted his 10th village tour, which marked an incredible 500 residents having had the chance to visit Westminster.
Following an unprecedented response to the MP’s previous tour, in which Iron Acton was hugely oversubscribed, it was decided that a second tour for the village should go ahead.
The day kicked off with an in-depth tour of Westminster, tracing the steps of Her Majesty the Queen on the State Opening of Parliament. The tour began with a visit to the Queen’s private Robing Rooms, which then led to the Royal Gallery, before a close look at the House of Lords and the House of Commons.
After a spot of lunch at a café in Westminster Hall, residents made their way to the Wilson Committee Room, where they met with Luke and had a Q&A session.
Local Iron Acton resident Tony Polonowski said: “It was a very rewarding experience and a great day. The guide was so knowledgeable, she made it interesting and was the icing on the cake.”
Preparations are underway for more tours to take place this year, with Luke reiterating his enthusiasm for continuing these events. The MP said: “It is not enough for MPs to sit back and expect people to get in touch with them, as a local man who has lived here all of my life, I want to reach out and make sure that everybody in our area has the chance to visit the heart of our great democracy."
Mr Hall continued: “To have welcomed 500 South Gloucestershire residents to Parliament is absolutely fantastic. I am delighted that these tours are so popular, and here’s to the next 500!”
