Local man Luke Hall, visited WWII veterans and local residents Sgt Tom Hall and Corporal Bill Billett, in the village of Marshfield.
Luke first met with the local war heroes after it came to light that the gentlemen were still waiting for their Legion D’Honneur, a war medal issued by the French government for all British personnel who served in the liberation of France, and particularly in Normandy.
After speaking with Mark Lancaster, Minister for Defence Veterans, Reserves and Personnel, Luke succeeded in obtaining the veterans’ medals, and took the opportunity to catch up with them today, celebrating that both veterans were now in possession of their accolades.
“Sgt Hall and Corporal Billett are our contry's finest. I am delighted that both gentlemen have now received their Legion D’Honneur and would like to take this opportunity to thank both men for their incredible service.”
Mr Hall continued, “It is vital that we recognise the great bravery of our Armed Forces, both past and present, and do everything we can to ensure they have receive the recognition they truly deserve. I am thrilled that Theresa May’s manifesto has pledged to support former members of the armed forces, who were willing to risk their lives for us, and that the co-ordination of government services to veterans will be improved."
Over the last two years, Luke has been actively campaigning on such matters, including historic Court Martials, promoting a local poem for an international war memorial service, and helping to bring Armed Forces Day 2018 to Thornbury.
