Luke Hall, the Member of Parliament for Thornbury and Yate, has joined the Environmental Audit Committee in Parliament as part of his election promise to help protect the environment.
The Environmental Audit Committee is unusual, as it does not scrutinise the work of a specific government department, but instead is tasked with considering the work of government on issues including environmental protection and sustainable development across all departments. It has previously held inquiries on climate change and ‘green taxation’. The Committee is chaired by Huw Irranca-Davies, the Labour Party MP for Ogmore.
Speaking after joining the committee Luke Hall said:
“I am extremely proud to have joined this important Committee. I consider myself a local country man, and have a deep personal appreciation for our natural environment.”
“By working on this Committee I will be able to support the government to protect the greenbelt, ensure economic development is sustainable for future generations, and help to reduce the impact of climate change, all issues which I know are hugely important to local people.”
