Local MP Luke Hall met with the Meningitis Now Young Ambassadors in Parliament, where he learnt about the devastating life-long impact that the disease has on its survivors. He had the opportunity to view the ‘Meningitis and Me’ report and the tales of determination, courage and hope it contained.
With only 17% of young people aged 17-18 being vaccinated against the deadly meningococcal W bacteria, Luke signed the petition to promote the use of the ACWY vaccination on young people.
In a statement Luke said “Around half a million people in the UK have had Meningitis, and many more family members and friends have felt the devastating impact of the disease. No one needs to face meningitis alone and I support the work that Meningitis Now are doing to increase awareness of this brutal disease.”
People particularly at risk of Meningitis include babies, children under 5, teenagers and young people between 15-24 years and the over 55s.
