Luke Hall’s campaign to secure funding to redevelop Thornbury Health Centre has reached its final stage as the final business case was this week submitted to the Department of Health and Social Care.
Last October, the MP secured the first 10% of the funding required to rebuild the Health Centre, following a decade long campaign, a debate in the House of Commons and an intense round of meetings with Government Health Ministers.
The final decision on whether to fully fund the new Health Centre now rests with Government Ministers. Luke Hall has today personally delivered his petition, signed by thousands of local residents, calling for the Government to fully fund the £14m required to rebuild the Health Centre.
In a new letter to Health Minister Lord Markham, the MP made the case that a new Health Centre would deliver more primary care services, more GP services, mental health services and would be a key part of delivering modern health services for the growing community.
Luke Hall MP stated, “It’s taken far too long to get to this point, but we have never been closer to getting our new Health Centre. I am grateful to every resident who has signed my petition, supported the debate in Parliament and offered support along the way. It has all helped to strengthen my hand when making the case to Government Ministers. It’s now or never, and I am fighting for us to get the green light so our community can access the Health services it deserves.”
Councillor Matthew Riddle said: "This campaign has been going on for decades and we are finally making progress. Now that many of the details have been agreed with local NHS officials, we are all behind Luke as he fights to get the final funding we need to get on with rebuilding Thornbury Health Centre."
The MP is due to meet Lord Markham in the coming weeks to discuss the significance of the new Health Centre to Thornbury, Alveston and the surrounding community, and the importance of agreeing the full funding required to deliver the rebuild.
