Local MP Luke Hall, Thornbury’s Conservative Councillor David Chubb have backed proposals by South Gloucestershire Council which could see an increase in ‘Parent and Child’ allocated bays in Thornbury’s central Rock Street Car Park.
The proposals by the local authority seek to look into the current provision of the bays set aside for families which could improve the amount of spaces within the town.
In a joint letter to the Town Council, the MP and Councillor made representations asking for their support for the districts proposals, citing many residents getting in touch who say that the current amount is lacking and often even deterring parents from choosing the High Street as a shopping destination.
The Town Council’s position is set to be considered at a meeting this week, prompting the Councillor and MP to gather as much support as possible for residents on the issue.
Local MP Luke Hall said; “A number of local parents have raised the issue of parent and child parking bays around the town, so I am pleased that after work by David, South Gloucestershire are now looking to take action to give more support to parents”
Councillor David Chubb (Thornbury,Con) said; “ Everyone I speak to around Thornbury really wants to support our fantastic High Street that is on our door steps, so I’m hoping that the council looking to improving the amount of spaces in the town will make it just that much easier for families to do just that.”
