Local MP Luke Hall is delighted to learn that our Kingsgate Park in Yate has been nominated in the Fields in Trust UK’s Best Park, as voted by YOU! 2017 Award. The deadline for voting one of our best loved local green spaces is 3rd November. The top parks in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will all be shortlisted, with the overall winner announcement taking place at the Fields in Trust Awards Ceremony at Lord's Cricket Ground on 29th November.
The national organisation Fields in Trust was founded by King George V in 1925 and it is the only charity operating throughout the UK to protect and safeguard parks, green spaces, and recreation and playing fields. Its aim is to ensure the preservation of our outdoor spaces for communities to enjoy, and secure them for the future.
The organisation has so far helped protect over 2,700 sites, including playgrounds, playing fields, and formal and informal parkland totalling 30,000 acres of land across the UK. Key programmes include the preservation of the King George V Playing Fields and the Queen Elizabeth II Fields. They are also working with the Royal British Legion for the conservation of Centenary Fields. Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall, who fully backs the scheme and Kingsgate Park, said: “I am extremely proud to see that Kingsgate Park has been nominated for this fantastic award, and I know what an important resource it is to local residents. I value the protection of our local parks and green spaces as they provide a wonderful and often vital space for people of all ages of our many villages and towns. I am grateful for all the work Fields in Trust does for our playing fields and parks, and hope local residents will take this opportunity to come together and vote for Kingsgate Park this week”.
