Local MP Luke Hall was delighted to host 75 more residents from neighbourhoods in Yate, Thornbury and the surrounding Severn Vale villages to visit Parliament, followed by the usual Q&A session in one of Parliament’s historic committee rooms.
Although Parliament is in its Easter recess, tour guides led residents on a journey through the corridors of Westminster, including both chambers of the House of Lords and House of Commons.
Luke then spoke to residents about his journey to becoming an MP and shared an insight on the day-to-day work that goes on around Parliament, including the legislation Luke has worked to pass through Government.
Residents had the opportunity to ask any questions with a range of topics being bought up such as local transport infrastructure, school funding as well as constituents raising concerns over South Gloucestershire Council’s proposed car parking charges. The MP reiterated his opposition to the plans, stressing that it will be local businesses and residents feeling the impact of these the most.
Luke talked about his ongoing work to ensure the redevelopment of Thornbury Health Centre goes ahead, offering enhanced primary care in the local area. Having secured the first 10% of funding last year, the MP emphasised his commitment to working with the Council and local Integrated Care Board, to ensure this facility is delivered for residents.
Luke said: “Thank you to everyone who joined me on another visit to Westminster. We had a good discussion about the plans to deliver a new Health Centre in Thornbury, as well as sharing concerns around the Council’s plans to introduce car parking charges in our local community. We have a busy schedule of tours in the coming weeks, and I look forward to welcoming more residents up to Parliament."
