The Vintage Birdcage Cakery opened its doors for the first time to serve up its niche range of tiffins, cakes and brownies. Its opening was attended by over 200 people during the day.
The Vintage Birdcage Cakery, located at the renovated Grooms House on Stanshawes Court is a stones through away from the popular Kingsgate Park and is the first shop to be opened by the entrepreneur and local businesswomen Nicole and Suzanne.
The journey from 5 years ago in the home kitchen to Yate’s latest café began as local Mum Nicole used her baking skills to help out the local PTA fundraise at her daughters school. After encouragement and feedback from others and sell out after sell out at fundraisers the mum decided to take the leap and set up cake stall at the schools fete where the mum, expecting there to be surplus cakes, had to inform a local café she had arranged to sell them to that there were in fact none left.
The next step saw Nicole begin baking commercially at home but as demand increased and with working part time at a local deli she decided to call on her best friend and now business partner Suzanne to join her on her journey. The pair moved to a farm kitchen in Frampton Cotterell but again the demand meant the duo had to look at a bigger premises.
After a family investment in the renovation of the Groom House on Stanshawes Court Road in Yate, work began creating the space that is now the Vintage Birdcage Cakery Today which includes a cooking school.
Nicole and Suzanne speaking at the opening said: “We both absolutely love what we do and every day is a pleasure - We finally feel we have found our niche and it makes us so proud when we see people take a mouthful and shut their eyes while they slip into a piece of The Vintage Birdcage Cakery heaven.”
Local MP Luke Hall who opened the cafe on Saturday said: “Nicole, Suzanne and the team clearly have such great passion for their cakes and the Vintage Birdcage. I think this will be a wonderful addition to the local area and it really is offering something different to local people. Small businesses are the centre of our local economy am I am confident about the future of Vintage Birdcage Cakery”.
