Luke Hall MP helped ‘tee-off’ a local charity event at Chipping Sodbury Golf Club last Friday in aid of raising awareness and raising funds towards combatting Parkinson’s disease.
The event, which was organised by local Iron Acton man Steve Taylor, aimed to raise awareness of the condition as well as raising cash for Bristol based research into the condition.
Steve Taylor from Iron Acton has been a member of Chipping Sodbury Golf Club for 31 years and in 2003 he became Club Captain. Unfortunately, Steve was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease 9 years ago and has been raising awareness and organising charity days for the cause ever since. The Charity day was well attended by over 130 local people who were made into 33 teams of 4 for a ‘Bow Maker’ competition. Lunch and numerous great raffle prizes were provided. The day so far has raised over £3,500. This is Steve’s 3rd charity event to raise monies for continued research into Parkinson’s disease which mainly affects the motor system.
Steve says ‘It was tremendous day which was very well supported by golfers and local businesses to raise awareness of Parkinson’s and raise much needed funds for research into this unpleasant illness. Many thanks to everyone who helped on the day’.
Luke who helped open the event said; “Steve has shown real courage and determination in the face of his diagnosis 9 years ago, I was delighted to go along and show my support for such a great cause. It is warming to see so many people turn out to support Steve and to raise money toward research of the condition”
One person in every 500 has Parkinson's. That's about 127,000 people in the UK. All proceeds raised from this charity event will be going into researching Parkinson’s at Bristol University.
