With record Government investment announced to fix potholes, Luke and South Gloucestershire Conservative Councillors have called on the Council to prioritise funds for our rural towns and villages.
After the cancellation of phase 2 of HS2, a record investment of £8.3 billion to fix the blight of potholes was announced using money previous allocated to that project.
Councillors Becky Romaine, Ben Stokes and Matthew Riddle have said the Labour and Lib Dem run South Gloucestershire must allocate more Government funding to our rural villages, and not just pump more money into urban areas like Filton and Kingswood.
Cllr Ben Stokes said, "The Government has announced record investment to repair road surfaces but our villages are not receiving their fair share of funding.
Cllr Becky Romaine added, "We will fight for more investment which is desperately needed."
Meanwhile, £2.5 billion Pothole Fund runs between 2020/2021 and 2024/2025 to help local authority's fill-in around 50 million potholes across the country and stop potholes forming in the first place. This will ensure that areas like South Gloucestershire are not left behind regarding road upkeep and development.
