South Gloucestershire Council continues to lead the way on recycling, with one of the highest recycling and composting rates in the UK.
Alongside this, urgent action is being taken to tackle to plastic waste. A £1 million fund has been launched to encourage organisations that collect business waste, to provide new and improved recycling services. A tax on plastic packaging, which does not contain at least 30% of recycles material, also came into force this month.
Locally, Luke Hall MP is pushing for the introduction of soft plastic recycling, to help families reduce the amount of household waste going to landfill each week. As part of his campaign, Luke has written to the Leader of South Gloucestershire Council, to ask what can be done in order to introduce soft plastic recycling to our villages.
Improved access to soft-plastic recycling has also been raised with the Minister for Nature Recovery and the Domestic Environment in Parliament, to seek Government support for South Gloucestershire's local campaign.
Luke said, “It is fantastic to see the Soft Plastic Campaign continue to gather momentum. Protecting our natural environment from harmful single use plastics is vitally important, and we will be pushing for this type of recycling for our community."
