Volunteers took to the streets of Thornbury as part of the town's Litter Busters group Big Spring Clean. More than 25 people met at the former social services on Saturday, February 27, breaking off into teams to cover areas around the town, with almost 30 bin liners filled upon their return. Joining the Thornbury Litter Busters team were Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall, as well as members of staff from Costa Coffee on the High Street, who then treated all involved to a free cup of coffee once the work was done.
“The turn-out for this year's event was the best ever,” said the group’s co-ordinator Kim Webber. "We've seen our numbers steadily increase over the years which is very encouraging and we were delighted that Luke could once again offer us his support. We would really like to thank the staff from Costa and members of the public who gave their time to help as well.”
Mr Hall praised the group for their efforts, complimenting them on “another fantastic turnout.” He added: “I know the whole community is so grateful to Kim and all of the volunteers who help keep Thornbury clean and litter free week after week, and I thoroughly enjoyed getting stuck in.”
Thornbury Litter Busters meet on the first Saturday of every month at The Swan, High Street, Thornbury at 9.30am. The next Big Spring Clean event will take place on Saturday, April 1. For further details email [email protected]
