Statement from Luke Hall MP on Ivory Ban:
Protecting the welfare of animals is an issue of particular importance to me personally.
I was pleased to have previously held a debate in Parliament on banning the Ivory Trade. You can read more about my campaign here: https://www.lukehall.org.uk/.../luke-hall-successfully...
We have launched a consultation on the implementation of the Ivory Act
The Ivory Act will introduce a near total ban on the import, export and dealing of items containing elephant Ivory in the UK.
The 8 week consultation closes on 4th May 2021
The UK government is working closely with the international community to address the threats to the conservation of elephants from poaching and both the legal and illegal ivory trade.
Since 2014 the UK has contributed £2.6 million to projects around the world to stop the ivory trade through the Illegal Wildlife Trade Challenge Fund.
The continued decline of Africa’s elephant population in recent years is absolutely heart-breaking, and is an issue that I feel very passionate about. I am absolutely delighted that this conservative Government is taking action to ensure the future survival of these beautiful creatures.
