A dance group in Yate have successfully completed an “exhausting” 24-hour dance-a-thon, which was cheered on by Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall.
Street Cred members as young as six took part in the mammoth dance session, which was hosted last weekend at Chipping Sodbury Grammar school in order to raise “much needed” funds.
The goal was for someone to always be dancing in the room at any one time, and so the group took it in turns to complete 3-hour dance shifts to make sure that someone was always on the move.
Street Cred owner Faith Newport, 19, said that she was "extremely proud" of everyone who took part.
She said: “It was really good and I was very impressed by everyone.”
“There were about 25 dancers taking part in total and it means a lot that they were all willing to work so hard to raise money.”
The danceathon, which began at 9pm on Friday evening, even received a show of support from MP Luke Hall, who visited the group on Saturday morning to offer his congratulations.
Even after a full night of dancing, the group were able to perform a complete routine for Mr Hall.
Street Cred dance teacher Katrina Newport, 44, said that fifteen dancers managed to make it all the way to the end of the danceathon.
She said: ““We kept ourselves going by dancing to lots of songs from the charts and practicing different street dance and hip hop routines.”
“It was absolutely exhausting, and I only had 55-minutes rest in the whole 24 hours, but it’s for a good cause so it was worth it.”
The group raised over £500 for completing the challenge, which will be split between Street Cred and Visually Impaired Children Taking Action (VICTA).
Street Cred will use the money raised for themselves to fund future trips, opportunities and competitions.
Donations are still being accepted by the group – contact Katrina on 07707 399533 to find out how to donate.
