Local Thornbury and Yate MP Luke Hall is asking for residents views on local sort-it centres operating hours this month after residents in the Yate area have raised concerns over evening opening hours, which they believe are inconvenient for working families.
At present Sort It centres across South Gloucestershire are open 8:30am to 4:30pm 7 days a week, providing daily coverage for residents to recycle household waste, however the close times throughout the week days have caused some concern from some.
In response to residents’ concerns the MP raised the issue with South Gloucestershire Councils Waste department to understand their position. The team have responded saying that it is believed that the present hours offer the best hours with the budget available, and that previous later opening hours had seen a low number of people using the service.
The MP is now seek residents thoughts on whether a trial period, offering a shifted opening hours towards the end of the day, would be used by residents, if this was placed on one day of the week.
The MP said; “Just as the Mall offers late night shopping on a Thursday, many people are asking whether the Sort-it Centre should offer later access one night a week. As a Yate resident myself, I am asking for feedback on whether there is enough demand for the centre to open later and close later one day a week."
Residents feedback can be provided by email at [email protected] , by post to 26 High Street, Chipping Sodbury, BS37 6AH or by phone 01454 311267.
