I have received information from Network Rail regarding the planned upgrades to our rail infrastructure, and maintenance work, which will be carried out during Autumn and Winter 2018.
During Easter 2018 Network Rail completed a major resignalling project replacing 1960s equipment with more modern and reliable signalling in the Bristol area. This followed the completion of an additional new platform at Bristol Parkway station at Christmas, helping to reduce delays in the area.
This autumn and winter Network Rail plans to finish electrification of the railway line to Bristol Parkway, as well as their project to double the number of tracks between Bristol
Temple Meads and Filton Abbey Wood stations. This work will enable new and
upgraded trains, with more seats and better on-board facilities, to be introduced
across the region.
The railway upgrade plan is expected to bring a step change in capacity to the railway network and enable new services to run. Please see the table below for further details about the planned railway closures and upgrade works.
