Local MP Luke Hall has recently secured more dropped kerbs in Old Sodbury, making it easier for residents with mobility disabilities to cross the road safely in the village after the issue was raised during his summer surgery tour, building on previous summer engagement tours after the last four years.
Luke has been holding regular public surgeries across the community and earlier this month, spent the day speaking to residents in Old Sodbury. He held a surgery in St John’s Church and spent the afternoon knocking on the doors of local residents to hear what changes can be made to improve our area.
One of the issues raised was the lack of dropped kerbs surrounding Badminton Road in Old Sodbury, making in difficult for residents will disabilities to access the local post box, bus stop, garage, pub and school.
Luke worked closely with South Gloucestershire Council to ensure that Old Sodbury has been added to the 2019-20 Mobility Dropped Kerb Programme which aims to install and improve crossing points for residents who rely on wheelchairs and mobility scooters. South Gloucestershire Council have announced that this change is anticipated to take place within this financial year.
This is a prime example of how important it is for the local representative to engage with members of our local community.
Local MP Luke Hall said: ‘I am delighted that Old Sodbury is to see more lowered kerbs. The issue was kindly brought to my attention during a door knocking session and I am pleased that the village is soon to be much more accessible. It is so important as the local MP to hear from residents’ ways in which we can improve pedestrian safety for all in our towns and villages’.
