Local MP for Thornbury and Yate, Luke Hall, has visited the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre in Frenchay, to meet with staff and patients.
Frenchay Brain Injury Centre provides specialist inpatient rehabilitation, for those who have suffered traumatic or acquired brain injury in the Bristol and South Gloucestershire region. The Centre offers regular assessment, rehabilitation and therapy for its patients, with 52 beds split over two units.
Luke met with staff at the Rehabilitation Centre to discuss funding to enhance one-to-one care, as well as his wider Positive Plan for Health in South Gloucestershire, of which Frenchay’s health services are a key component.
Last year, when plans for new health services at the former Frenchay Hospital site came under threat, Luke Hall stepped in to ensure these plans were preserved and that key services would rerun to the area in the future. The MP’s Positive Plan is seeking to join up key health services throughout South Gloucestershire, with Frenchay receiving investment and support to coincide with and accompany the campaigns already gathering speed at the Yate Minor Injuries and Thornbury’s Health Centre.
Speaking outside the Rehab Centre, Luke said, “I will be continuing to press for a return of further health services to Frenchay and am determined to ensure we have the local health services our community vitally needs.
“My Positive Plan for Health aims to strengthen the connection between our local hospitals and car facilities, to help relieve pressure and enhance access to vital treatment. The loss of Frenchay Hospital was colossal; however, I am glad that the Rehab Centre in Frenchay is marking the beginning of new services coming back to the area.”
