Local MP Luke Hall has ensured that Westerleigh Crematorium is to be made more accessible for people travelling there by bus.
The issue was brought to Luke’s attention by local resident Christine Treasure at his latest Supermarket Saturday Surgery.
Residents had experienced difficulty when visiting the Crematorium on public transport due to the limited space for passengers when getting of the bus. They felt that the current crossing was unsafe.
Luke raised this issue with the Council, and work is now underway as part of the Westerleigh Crematorium Pedestrian Improvement Scheme.
This will consist of a safe crossing constructed in the middle of the road, as well as a platform for the bus to pull up against, allowing passengers safe access and egress off and on to the bus.
Local resident Christine Treasure said:
“I raised my concerns with Luke at his local Tesco surgery and am so glad that these works are taking place so quickly. This will definitely make the bus stop a lot safer for everyone.”

“I am so pleased that the council have decided to make these improvements in Westerleigh. It is absolutely vital that residents feel completely safe whenever they are taking public our transport.
