Local MP Luke Hall has hosted his first surgeries following the United Kingdom’s departure from the European Union.
Open to all members of the public, and held in both Tesco in Yate and Waitrose in Chipping Sodbury, Luke had the opportunity to meet with people from all across our community and give residents the opportunity to drop in with any concerns.
Despite the UK’s departure from the EU taking place just 12 hours earlier, Brexit was not the key issue on everyone’s minds. Instead, important topics such as improving local train services from Yate, parking in Chipping Sodbury, the successful Free Swimming campaign, speeding in Horton and Old Sodbury, and improved Broadband for our rural communities were the issues that mattered most to people.
Residents also voiced their support for Luke's Positive Plan for the area, which includes fighting against poorly planned housing development like Buckover, and investing in our local health centres like the planned Thornbury and Frenchay Health Centre upgrades. Luke is seeking to improve our transport infrastructure, increase funding in every school, keep business taxes low in order to support the local economy, and ensure that everyone has access to a good Broadband connection.
Luke Hall said:
"The past few years have been dominated by Brexit discussions and divisions. Now that we have got Brexit done, we can move on to bringing our community together and delivering our Positive Plan, ensuring that and the priorities that local people have receive the focus they deserve.”
