Throughout his time as the local MP, Luke Hall has dedicated his attention to the maintenance of Chruch Avenue and Easley Close, in Falfield, which are the neighbouring streets next to HMP Eastwood Park.
The roads in question are currently owned and managed by the Ministry of Justice, however Luke has been working with local residents in the area to explore the options available to ensure a regular maintenance programme is secured for the neighbourhood.
Having made progress in discussions with South Gloucestershire Council, the local MP has secured an investigation to assess whether the roads could be brought up to a standard to adopt, with the Council then assuming ownership of the roads. This in turn would allow for more frequent and efficient repairs, to key concerns such as the road surface, potholes, streetlighting and drainage.
In a key step forward, Luke met with Ministry of Justice Minister Alex Chalk MP, to discuss the proposals and to assess the current roads and infrastructure within the vicinity of Eastwood Park.
Luke said, "I was delighted to meet with the Minister this afternoon to discuss our efforts to improve the road surface condition in and around Church Avenue and Eastley Close. I am also very grateful to the residents who took the time to speak to me on the doorstep today, to let me know their thoughts as we continue to explore the ways in which we can secure long-term repairs for the area."
Mr Chalk MP, the Minister for Prison Operations, Policy, Reform and industrial Relations, added, “It was very useful to visit Falfield today and meet with Luke to discuss Church Avenue and Eastley Close. The Ministry of Justice will continue to work with Falfield Parish Council, South Gloucestershire Council and Luke as the local MP to discuss the best future for these roads. In the meantime, we will continue to ensure any maintenance issues are resolved as quickly as possible."
With the Ministry of Justice involved in these discussions, attention has now turned to securing a joint inspection with South Gloucestershire Council to assess the situation further. In the meantime, the local MP has asked residents of Eastley Close and Church Avenue to let him know what their preferred outcome would be and for their thoughts on these proposals.
