A letter to Charfield residents from Luke Hall MP:
Dear Neighbour,
As you will know, the reopening of Charfield Station has been an ongoing campaign for our village, and we are pleased to say we have now taken another big step forward towards this becoming a reality.
As your local MP, and the South Gloucestershire Council Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, we have been working to secure support for the development of Charfield Station and wanted to take this opportunity to update you on the progress that is being made.
South Gloucestershire Council have now submitted an Outline Business Case, which sets out why the station is required and how it will be delivered. This has been submitted to the West of England Combined Authority, which will be responsible for providing the important funding required for this project. By mid-October, we will have the outcome from the Combined Authority.
Our bid proposes to return Charfield Station to the heart of the village, along Station Road and adjacent to Little Bristol Lane. The station will consist of two platforms; a connecting pedestrian bridge, ticket machines on each station, cycle parking and parking bays for drop-offs and taxis. The plans also include a car park, which will be located further along Station Road.
A public consultation covering all elements of the scheme will be held very soon and we will be helping to ensure all feedback is submitted to South Gloucestershire Council from the Charfield Community. The consultation feedback will help to shape proposals ahead of a full planning application in 2022. In the meantime, if you have any questions about the plans then please do let us know.
We are hugely grateful for all of the local support and comments about reopening Charfield Station so far. Reopening Charfield Station will help to relieve some of the growing pressure on the road network, will mean quicker journey times to Bristol and Gloucester, and provide a vital links to employment, schools and colleges.
With your support, we are delivering our Positive Plan for South Gloucestershire. We’ve scrapped the Severn Bridge Tolls, secured new Electric Car Charging points which will be installed around South Gloucestershire, are building a Yate Park and Ride and will be delivering a half hourly train service from Yate to Bristol.
We will keep you updated as Charfield Station moves forward. Thank you for your support. As ever, if there is anything else that we can help with, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
With our very best wishes,
Luke Hall MP Councillor Steve Reade
Member of Parliament for Thornbury and Yate Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Environment and Strategic Infrastructure
