This month, Abbotswood Pharmacy is promoting Self Care Week, an initiative to help support local residents with their individual mental and physical health.
This initiative, running from the 14th to the 20th November, focuses on embedding support for Self Care across our communities.
Joining the Abbotswood team at the launch of Self Care Week, Luke Hall MP visited the team in Yate to discuss the initiative and their efforts to promote healthy living for families and local residents in the area.
Pharmacist Ade Williams MBE, who has been championing the scheme locally, met with the local MP to talk about the scheme’s objective, which includes the key message of taking care of our own health through healthy eating, regular exercise, and getting outdoors as often as possible.
Luke and the Abbotswood team also talked about how to increase uptake of flu and Covid vaccinations by unpaid carers, and nursing home and social care workers. Abbotswood Pharmacy is leading a wider NHS campaign to boost confidence in getting vaccinated and is offering a walk-in service this season.
Luke Hall MP said: “Community pharmacies are an incredibly valuable health service in our community and for many are the most accessible gateways for NHS care. Self-Care Week is vitally important as it highlights the small ways in which we can take pressure off pharmacies during busy periods of the year.”
The MP continued, “I commend the hard work Ade and the Abbotswood Pharmacy team provide for the community and will continue to provide them with any support they require."
Following Luke’s visit, Ade Williams added, “Abbotswood Pharmacy are very pleased to have had Luke Hall MP visit us to encourage constituents to have their NHS Flu jabs, discuss our work supporting the Community’s Health and Wellbeing alongside our role promoting Self Care”
“Self Care Week helps create a much-needed positive focus on this unique role of Community Pharmacy that underpins how we empower people and ensure efficient use of time and resources in the NHS.”
“We are grateful for Luke’s support locally and also importantly in Parliament; to ensure we are resourced and empowered to deliver for our community.”
Luke’s visit reflects his ongoing commitment to our Positive Plan for Health, as the MP continues to support local health and GP services, and campaigns for greater support and investment in South Gloucestershire.
